Job Summary

Our Business Intelligence team is looking for a Senior Data Developer Analyst to join us to advance and maintain the data processes for our high-quality reports and dashboards.

The focus of this role is to create processes that collect data from various sources and transform it into actionable information for a team of analysts. This will require a working knowledge of SQL and familiarity with UK health and/or social care data. Ideally, you’ll have substantial experience working in an NHS Information Service. Having knowledge of Tableau or a similar data visualisation tool would be advantageous.

This position is ideal for someone who has a keen eye for detail, values the use of data in healthcare, and can effectively communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintaining and updating multiple databases for the Performance and Information team, including producing standardised tables for efficient reporting.
  • Collaborating with staff in various positions to ensure accurate data recording and reporting in compliance with local contracts and national dataset (e.g. CDS, CSDS, ECDS, IAPTDS, MHSDS etc.) standards.
  • Ensuring the data produced is fit for purpose and available as required, including identifying problems and inconsistencies within complex datasets and offering solutions.
  • Assisting the Data Warehouse Manager with Microsoft SQL Server estate tasks.

In this interesting and rewarding role, you will take responsibility for developing specific data sets and data sources. You will also assist with implementing Business Intelligence Reporting Tools and be required to line manage members of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Graduate, degree, diploma or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Formal Project Management qualification or similar experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development

LENGTH AND / OR NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of working in an NHS (or similar) information management team; including data extraction and processing, information analysis and data validation across the financial year
  • Experience of working as an Information of Data Analyst/Developer/ Architect (or equivalent) in a NHS information management team

PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Experience in designing Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Experience of implementing, optimising, maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Experience of importing data via Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services and other tools
  • Has an awareness of political and other external influences on the health industry and/or use of information
  • Competent in the use of data analysis software and other relevant computer systems including standard Microsoft products
  • Ability to consider problems and link issues in a broad context and look beyond the immediate situation
  • Ability to demonstrate complex data issues, negotiate and be prepared to justify or defend their position when required
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills to co-ordinate a complex workload and balance key deliverables which may at times be conflicting. This may involve re-allocating or re-prioritising tasks and forward planning where possible
  • Detailed understanding and experience of NHS Planning, Performance Management and Commissioning processes as well as the NHS Data Model and routine central returns

Desirable

  • Has managerial experience
  • Knowledge of XML and HL7 processing amongst other data formats including the use of MESH
  • Evidence of T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS and OLAP skills
  • Knows Tableau
  • Knowledge of server specifications and maintenance
  • Knowledge of compiling command prompts
  • Has an accredited course in NHS Informatics
