Or do you already have valuable Band 5 experience and are eager to take your skills to new places? Join our Acute Dietetic Team at Torbay Hospital in a permanent Band 5 position, alongside another acute based Band 5, and five other Band 5s across our wider team. This exciting role spans acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, and healthcare of the older person. You’ll be supported by an experienced team of dietitians committed to your growth and success.This position offers the chance to explore specialist areas and broaden your professional horizons. Main duties of the job

Assess and treat a designated caseload of patients on allocated wards and in one outpatient clinic per week (including telephone and video conference clinics) with support from Band 7 team lead and experienced Band 6 dietitians, and maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records using an EPR.

Add to training of other staff across the Trust including use and promotion of the MUST screening tool and use of special diets and specialist nutritional feeds and supplements.

Contribute to training and supervision of student dietitians.

Commit to the wider development of the dietetic service and nutritional provision within Torbay and South Devon, with support from the Acute Team of Dietitians and Team Lead.

Specific Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assess suitability of various feeding routes
  • Ability to formulate meaningful nutrition plans
  • Numerate ability, to undertake complex calculations
  • Ability to interpret data and make appropriate clinical decisions
  • Ability to make judgements on a range of medical problems which require investigation, analysing and assessment in order to provide the most appropriate form of nutritional support

Desirable

  • Participation in clinical audit

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of the range of enteral feeds, equipment and access routes
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice in a range of dietetic conditions seen within acute practice
  • Working knowledge of nutrition screening tools such as MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool)
  • Recognition of limitations in knowledge and ability to request advice

Desirable

  • Previous employment working as a HCPC registered Dietitian
  • Previous experience, employment or voluntary work relevant to this role

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Qualification in Nutrition & Dietetics
  • HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Member of BDA
  • Food Hygiene certificate (Level 2)
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills for Student Training
