Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and highly motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner/ Advanced Clinical Practitioner to work within the field of Medical Same Day Emergency Care based on the County Hospital Site.

UHNM has an established group of Advanced Clinical Practitioners and there is positive peer support as well as support from the Senior Divisional Nursing Team and Consultant body. You will have the opportunity to contribute to and drive forward significant changes within the specialities.

We are looking for an innovative and forward thinking team member that will challenge traditional ways of working, and seek to enhance clinical care and deliver an excellent patient experience. You will work alongside the acute medical team and exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgment, discretion and decision-making in clinical care.

Main duties of the job

The advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) provides advanced clinical practice as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team within their speciality at the University Hospital of North Midlands.

The definition of Advanced Clinical Practice as stated by Health Education England (2017) is ” delivered by experienced, registered health and care practitioners. It is a level of practice characterised by a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making. This is underpinned by a master’s level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research, with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.”

The ACP has a trust-wide responsibility to provide clinical excellence through the four pillars of advanced clinical practice. The clinical practice pillar accounts for a minimum of 80% of their contracted hours of work and they practice with a significant higher level of responsibility and autonomy which is comparable to that of the level of medical staff providing the same level of service:

You will provide advanced clinical skills and advice demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the client group. The remit of the post is to assess patients and formulate treatment plans with the establishment medical team and nursing staff. You will be a non-medical prescriber.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse-NMC
  • MSc degree in advanced clinical practice or equivalent MSc.
  • 3yrs post registration experience to include 1yr in leadership role.

Desirable

  • Accreditation with The Centre For Advancing Practice
  • Experience in Medical Same Day Emergency Care

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional portfolio evidencing the ongoing practice in the four pillars of advanced clinical practice.
  • Currently working as a qualified ACP
  • 2 yrs experience working in acute Trust
  • Independent prescribing
  • Health Assessment
  • ALS Qualified

Desirable

  • Evidence of teaching, supervision and mentoring

  • oExperience of delivering training programmes & presentations to various levels of staff
