Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Advanced Workforce BI Analyst at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The role will have a primary focus on business intelligence, data science, planning, reporting, information analysis using digital solutions and developing the workforce systems. If you have previous experience in these areas whilst being able to manage a diverse group of stakeholders, we would love to receive your application.
The Workforce team provides advanced analysis, planning, data management and reporting internally and externally for the UHS as well as publishing findings and any suggestions on areas for further interrogation or development.
We need an approachable, analytical, well-organised individual with excellent communication skills who can work within a challenging, dynamic and fast-moving environment with critical deadlines. An ability to build relationships to collaboratively deliver successful solutions is essential.

Qualifications / training required
Essential
- Educated to masters level in a numerate discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience within a health informatics environment e.g. at senior analyst/principal analyst level
- Continuing development of knowledge and expertise within field
Desirable
- Healthcare workforce, information, analytics, data science or computing background.
- Evidence of continuing professional education in a relevant discipline, such as Healthcare, workforce data, intelligence, planning, management
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential
- Able to demonstrate the use of software to create new tools and resources.
- Able to demonstrate the use of software to process raw data, create complex reports and provide information outputs
- Experience and expertise in information management and delivery
- Knowledge of NHS workforce based data, staff information or administration systems (eg. ESR, electronic rostering systems) and operational reporting requirements
- Project management and implementation experience
- Demonstrable use of Management Information Systems and associated reporting tools at an advanced level
- Able to demonstrate extensive experience of information analysis and reporting
- Adaptation, creation, and implementation of policy and procedures within information setting
- PC computing environment including the use of desktop software at an advanced level
- Expertise and experience in dealing with identifiable data and commercially sensitive data
- Experience of leading service delivery to meet set timescales and deadlines
Desirable
- Experience within the subject area of healthcare mandatory reporting and data intelligence for all staffing groups with awareness of workforce pathways and environmental factors.
- Experience within the subject area of workforce planning, forecasting, activity based staff management and knowledge of NHS acute sector operational requirements
- Has used corporate or industry standard software to extract, transform and load data from different systems or sources.
- In depth specialist experience working as an analyst or analytics lead within a healthcare intelligence or reporting environment
- Reporting using SQL and SQL based tools on relational databases
- Experience of using or creating benchmarking / comparative analysis.
- Experience of training people how to use software / systems / information
- Experience of information management and delivery within the acute hospital sector
- Experience with using national NHS datasets.
- Has produced or interpreted advanced data visualisations within a professional capacity.
- Team and staff management at team head level or above
