Job Summary

We’re currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate and highly motivated AI Solutions Developer to join our Software Development Team. The role is a dynamic endeavour to bring to life several proof-of-concept systems across the Digital and Innovation Services department and wider organisation. Our team has an excellent track record of supporting the Trust to innovate through clinical and back-office solutions. Complementing the full stack developers and low code developers, this role will support several AI initiatives with a lot of scope to influence architecture, tools and design.

The role will be expected to support the Software Development Team Manager with the management and implementation of the areas identified above in relation to all D&I projects undertaken within the Plymouth and Devon Healthcare community.

The post holder is expected to be knowledgeable and skilled in AI Systems Design and Development.

The ideal applicant should have the ability to work unsupervised with a willingness to learn new technologies, and existing system functionality in a short time frame. As we look beyond proof of concepts, an ideal candidate wants to shape the enterprise scale delivery through DevOps, orchestration and monitoring.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and ‘At Risk’ status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

 

Main duties of the job

To act as a Subject Matter Expert in the development of Artificial Intelligence solutions.

To develop new and existing information systems in line with the team’s agreed coding standards to assure production of a quality product that meets the DSB0129 Clinical Risk Management standard.

Document code consistently throughout the development process.

Keep abreast of new technologies and frameworks by undertaking research and development that can be shared with colleagues to improve performance and quality of development activities and contribute to future business plans for the D&I department.

To acquire and maintain a proven knowledge of existing AI implementations across the organisation and regional partners.

To produce reports and technical schematics as Directed by the Software Development Manager as required.

To undertake other duties as designated by the Software Development Team Manager or Head of Enterprise Architecture.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in Artificial Intelligence/Computer Science/Software development or relevant demonstratable experience equivalent to 2 years working in a software development team or environment with demonstrable outputs (e.g. example apps or source code).

Desirable

  • Proven evidence of ongoing personal development and interest in the field of AI software development.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • A good understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Proven knowledge and demonstratable experience in key languages and frameworks:
  • Python and common AI
  • Python UI / Web based frameworks (e.g. Gradio)
  • Open Source LLMs
  • JavaScript
  • REST APIs
  • Secure Coding Practices
  • Familiarity with the production of technical documentation to support user requirements, system design and technical architecture.

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential

  • Logical and creative thinking skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills on highly complex systems, datasets and code.
  • Ability to work independently, taking responsibility for delivery of work within agreed timescales.
  • A thorough and organised approach. Including effective organisational and time management skills.
