Job description

Job responsibilities

• The design, development, testing and maintenance of processes & products using Microsoft PowerBI.
• The design, documentation & development of dimensional & relational data structures to represent data from the Data Warehouse architecture using PowerBI.
• Work with Data Engineering colleagues to align PowerBI Datasets & Data Models with the Data Warehouse. Manage Gateways & Dashboards on an ongoing basis.
• To create, maintain & support others in the development of analytics solutions.
• To agree & develop against Intelligence Team best practices & to design elegant and re-usable solutions in line with the teams development principles.
• To contribute and adhere to development patterns, frameworks & best practices to standardise analytical solutions.
• The timely & effective debugging of urgent system faults to solve complex technical problems & restore services.
• The creation & application of thorough re-usable testing plans to assure the quality of developments.
• To work within the teams development sprint framework and to meet agreed deadlines but be flexible enough to respond to urgent requests to meet the changing needs of the business.
• To work with the Intelligence Teams customers to identify their requirements and translate into formal, technical specifications.
• The implementation of global PowerBI security and data governance policy & provision.
• To manage and maintain the PowerBI Premium Capacity Licence, ensuring equality of service across the place.
• To work comfortably within the team, mentor teammates, be mentored by others, share knowledge and learn.
• Provide clear and concise documentation, which meets best practice and clearly describes complex processes, leveraging existing diagramming techniques & house styles as appropriate.
• To be subject matter expert on matters concerning the Trusts Analytics Platform and Microsoft PowerBI.
• Be driven to continually learn & improve professional technical skills & maintain up to date specialist knowledge.
• Provide cover and support across the Intelligence Team as required.
• Be aware of changes to relevant NHS standards, guidance, and specifications & suggest changes to maintain compliancy.
• To follow standard operating procedures where appropriate whilst challenging their relevance, accuracy and candidacy for automation.
• Be a protagonist in the DevOps movement in the Intelligence Team, contribute to and adhere to the process to provide consistent, reliable & fast deployments.

Experience

Essential

• Experienced in the design, development, testing and maintenance of complex technical analytics solutions.
• Experienced in development across Microsoft PowerBI at an expert level across various versions.
• Experience of design, development, testing, deployment, reverse engineering and documentation of complex processes & products using PowerBI.
• Experienced in the design, documentation & development of dimensional and relational data models.
• Experience of debugging & problem solving of complex technical issues under time pressure.
• Experience of creating & applying repeatable testing plans to assure quality of developments.
• Experience of building advanced PowerBI solutions.
• Experience of working to and meeting deadlines.
• Experienced translator of non-technical, colloquial requirements into formal technical specifications.
• Experienced in the complexities of working within a technical team.
• Experience of teaching & mentorship.
• Previous experience of working within an information related department.

• Experienced in the development & maintenance of QlikSense & QlikView solutions.

• Deep knowledge and understanding of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for data modelling, report creation and dashboard development in PowerBI.
• An awareness of the levels of normalisation and its use-cases.
• Knowledge and awareness of Data Flow Diagrams and an appreciation for their importance.
• Knowledge of the relationships within datasets and the use of Entity Relationship Diagrams to describe these.
• Knowledge and awareness of Star Schema data models and how these can be implemented in a data warehouse.

• Understanding of Data Protection and Caldicott Security and Confidentiality, Data Protection Act.
