Job Summary

The Analytics Engineer will lead and manage a technical Delivery team, within the wider Informatics team. The Delivery team provide a data modelling and visual analytics service delivering well-designed and innovative products, such as dashboards and reports, aligned to the organisational strategic aim and goals agreed within the governance framework. Products will deliver value by providing analytics, insights and visualisations through the Trust’s dashboarding solution (Power BI). Each product developed will need both user and technical documentation, including the completion of design templates, change control requests, testing plans and results.

Main duties of the job

The Informatics team consists of about 18 staff, covering Requirements, Assurance, Delivery and Engineering. Working closely with team colleagues, e.g. Informatics Business Partners, Analytics Developers, Data Engineers and others, the post holder will use their technical skills to undertake data analyses, as well as ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard. The postholder will ensure that Informatics work directly supports improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency. The postholder will support and respond to the Trust’s goals for clinical service quality improvement and optimisation, performance, and contract management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (e.g., health informatics, computer science, social sciences) or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to informatics, programme/project management or data analysis

Desirable

  • Professional and relevant qualifications
  • Membership of a Professional Body
  • ITIL Service Management/ PRINCE 2/MSP Practitioner / Foundation (A)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in supporting users with knowledge of NHS data models & reporting, data quality, performance management and Service Improvement
  • Understanding of NHS Information Governance and regulatory needs
  • Design data architecture by dealing with specific business problems and aligning it to enterprise-wide standards and principles, using the Microsoft Power BI stack
  • Design, code, test and deploy scripts following standards and good practice
  • Experience of delivering data visualisation programmes
  • Evidence of SQL BI technical knowledge across the end-to-end of business intelligence design and platform maintenance
  • Experience of leading and managing staff, including recruitment, appraisals, training and devising personal development programmes (PDP)
  • Knowledge of successful organisational change management methodologies
  • Awareness of NHS Performance requirements for Trusts, ICB and within the wider NHS system

Desirable

  • Experience of solution design & development life cycle involving BI technologies and Frameworks
  • Experience of managing outputs and doing Quality Assurance when working with external teams and vendors
  • Knowledge of performance and contract management systems within mental healthcare organisations
