An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Evolve Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS) as an Intervention Worker (Assistant Psychologist). Evolve is a specialist multi-disciplinary and multi-agency service delivered in partnership between Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and Greater Manchester Probation Service as part of the national Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway.
The service supports individuals on probation who present with complex psychological, emotional and relational difficulties and who are assessed as posing a high risk of violent reoffending. Many service users have experienced significant trauma and may have neurodevelopmental, mental health or personality-related difficulties that impact upon their wellbeing and risk management.
Working within a psychologically informed, trauma-responsive framework, you will support service users to develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to live safer and more meaningful lives within the community. This role combines therapeutic engagement with practical support and offers an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate seeking experience relevant to future Clinical or Forensic Psychology training.
You will be part of a highly skilled team comprising psychologists, probation practitioners, nurses and occupational therapists, with access to high-quality supervision, training and development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
As an Intervention Worker (Assistant Psychologist), you will support the delivery of psychologically informed interventions and practical support to service users with complex needs. Working under the supervision of qualified psychologists and senior intervention staff, you will contribute to assessment, formulation, intervention planning and risk management activities.
The role involves developing therapeutic relationships with service users, supporting them to address practical difficulties such as housing, finances, physical health, community integration and accessing services. You will work collaboratively with probation practitioners and partner agencies to support rehabilitation, resettlement and risk reduction.
You will meet service users across a variety of settings including probation offices, prisons, approved premises, healthcare environments and community locations. In addition, you will contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, service evaluation activities, data collection, audit work and the ongoing development of the Evolve service.

Qualifications
Essential
- Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1 classification or equivalent).
- Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Desirable
- Desirable Postgraduate study, training or relevant courses in areas such as Forensic Psychology, Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Practice or related fields.
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of psychological theories relevant to personality disorder, trauma, attachment and offending behaviour.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and psychologically informed approaches to intervention.
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and public protection processes.
- Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion principles and their application in practice.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway.
- Understanding of MAPPA processes and the criminal justice/probation system.
- Awareness of formulation-driven and psychologically informed approaches to complex presentations.
Experience

- Experience of working with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, psychological distress or complex needs.
- Experience of supporting vulnerable or high-risk populations, including individuals with trauma histories, substance misuse problems, homelessness or offending behaviours.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency environment.
- Experience of data collection, report writing, audit or service evaluation activities.
