Job Summary

We are excited to offer two full time Assistant Psychology posts at Oxleas House; One post will cover the Tarn ward, a 14 bedded male Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, whilst the other post will cover a new 16 bedded mixed gender acute ward. The post holders will have the opportunity of working alongside qualified professional psychologists and be part of a wider Psychological Therapies team across Oxleas House and the Trust-wide Acute and Crisis Directorate . Working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; though this can be negotiable as necessary.

Main duties of the job

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the adult Service providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently on a day-to-day basis according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. The post holder will be working on Shrewsbury/Tarn Ward, an inpatient setting for adults with mental health needs.

Specific opportunities will involve facilitation of psychologically informed therapeutic groups as well as individual or family psychotherapeutic provision. Individual work may also include neuropsychological assessments.

Regular and routine clinical supervision with the unit qualified Psychologists will be provided as well as access to the wider Trust CPD opportunities.

Other roles will include staff training and support and involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement project work and clinical research studies.

  • BA/BSc Psychology

  • Masters in Psychology

Running groups

  • Experience of running groups
