Job Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to work within our Children’s Autism and ADHD Team – Fixed Term, 18 months. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children and families navigating neurodevelopmental assessments.

Working under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, you will contribute to the diagnostic process through a balance of desk-based tasks and direct clinical appointments, gathering and organising information that supports clear, thoughtful formulation.

You will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team that includes nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and dedicated support workers, all committed to providing holistic, child-centred care.

You will also be expected to travel to different locations across the Trust to support assessment activity and meet service needs.

Main duties of the job

To complete and support components of an Autism or ADHD assessment, this could include:

  • Work with clinicians to review and collate relevant information relevant to a young person’s diagnostic assessment for autism and/or ADHD.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians in clinic settings, setting up clinics, engaging with families/child, observations, note taking, contributing to formulations and tidying up after clinic.
  • To complete school observations as requested by a clinician as part of a young person’s diagnostic assessment.
  • Be willing and able to travel across our entire locality (East Yorkshire and Hull).
  • Supporting report writing as overseen by a qualified clinician.
  • To attend relevant meetings.
  • To lead QB testing as requested by clinicians as part of a young person’s assessment.
  • To independently deliver parts of an assessment as guided by the lead clinician.
  • Complete psychometric testing as delegated by psychological team.
  • Where appropriate manage specialist in-boxes on behalf of the service.
  • Assist in clinically related audits, surveys, collation and analysis of statistics/information.
  • Attend and participate in regular supervision with a clinical psychologist in line with BPS guidelines.
  • Effective time management to complete the different aspects of the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in Psychology
  • Demonstrate a range of experience relevant to the role, which may include but is not limited to:clinical interventions, procedures and practices which are evidence based

Desirable

  • Evidence of current CPD / or equivalent knowledge/learning.
  • Additional qualifications or course attendance in a related field

Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate knowledge/experience of working or placements within identified clinical area.

Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
  • Evidence / knowledge of promoting / supporting active user/carer involvement/participation.

  • Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal / communication skills
  • Evidence of good time management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
