Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Assistant Psychologists to join the Enfield CAMHS – Generic and Neurodevelopmental (NDS) Team.

The Generic/NDS Team provides a comprehensive range of assessment and therapeutic interventions. The team further, provides consultation to professionals, as well as assessment and treatment for Neurodevelopmental conditions.

The post holder will be joining a supportive multi-disciplinary team, using formulation and drawing on different clinical approaches in line with the THRIVE Framework.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support assessments for a broad range of mental health conditions meeting specialist CAMHS criteria, including neurodevelopmental conditions, supporting our duty system, developing processes and protocols and supporting waiting list management.

This position provides opportunities to work with and develop links with health and social care as part of the THRIVE Framework to delivery of care for young people.

Regular clinical supervision will be provided, exploring development opportunities for the post holder. We will support individuals to develop their skills and pursue specific areas of interest or service development projects where appropriate. We also hold regular CPD and service development days across the whole service.

Job responsibilities

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

The post holder will support both direct and indirect care working with colleagues within the multidisciplinary team. They will provide consultation with other clinicians, offering assessments and interventions where indicated. They will have knowledge of assessments and treatment for children and adolescents with mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Registrations

Essential

  • An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Evidence of additional specialist training.

Desirable

  • ADOS-II training.
  • 3DI or ADI-R training.
  • Training in a subject/ skill relevant to Child & and Adolescent Mental Health (0-18 years).
  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of research design and analysis.

Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Understanding of child development stages and psychosocial model.
  • Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Ability to apply learning in practice.
  • Ability to maintain and manage own workload.
  • Skills in using IT, including office applications, clinical record systems (e.g. RiO) and database/ statistical applications (e.g. Excel), to input relevant data and type summaries and reports etc.
  • Ability to be self-reflective on personal and professional development and use clinical supervision to explore and understand distress both directly with patients and indirectly.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering teaching and training, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations.
  • High standard of report writing.
  • Understanding of the need and rationale for using evidence based psychological therapies.
  • An understanding of service evaluation methods in healthcare, and an ability to plan and implement quality improvement projects.
  • Understanding of importance to modify, adapt methods of communication and interventions.

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience working with children and young people with either emotional or neurodevelopmental conditions, including ASD and ADHD.
  • Experience of working to support the mental health needs of children and young people, and their families, including with neurodevelopmental disorders, and delivering low level evidence-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of and experience in using routine outcome monitoring in practice.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of importance of remaining up to date on evidenced based practice.
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group.

Desirable

  • Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
  • Experience of working with diverse communities and within a multicultural setting.
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary and multiagency offering support and guidance.
  • Experience of working with and knowledge in processes around managing risk and safeguarding.
