Job summary

Cherry Ward functions as an 18 bedded mixed sex acute ward for adults of working age (18-65yrs). The ward successfully opened in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and since opening, our well developed, diverse and high achieving nursing team have received high praise. Cherry Ward takes pride on being a therapies driven acute inpatient ward where we focus on utilising least restrictive therapeutic approaches to caring for our service users.

The ward works closely with the other inpatient wards to facilitate treatment on both the AWP Callington Road Hospital site and other units across the locality. Working on Cherry Ward would provide you with a wealth of learning opportunities to develop new skills in working with service users from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, who are experiencing an acute episode of mental health problems.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our experienced and cohesive team. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality, evidence-based individualised and person centred care with the emphasis being on providing a therapeutic environment, allowing our service users a space for assessment, treatment and recovery.

All nursing staff are expected to work a mixture of shifts, consisting of earlies, lates, nights and weekends. All staff are expected to have undertaken or undertake RRI training and PERT.

Main duties of the job

Your role as a Band 5 Staff Nurse will include co-ordinating shifts, attending ward rounds, completing medication rounds, supervising students and HCA’s. You will work closely with service users in the key working role, supporting both service users and their carers during their admission and discharge back in to the community.

Cherry Ward staff have a well-established working relationship with our neighbouring acute wards on the Callington Road site – we try to support each other wherever possible. All staff are expected to support other units on site, particularly in emergencies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Mental Health Nursing Degree
  • NMC Pin
  • Ability to maintain accurate, appropriate records
  • Knowledge of medication rounds and safe administration and disposal of drugs
  • De-escalation and listening skills
  • Able to communicate effectively and efficiently

Desirable

  • Experience as a Band 5 Staff Nurse
