Band 6 Respiratory Nurse Specialist – Two Full time posts (one based at West Cumberland Hospital and one based at the Cumberland Infirmary

The post holder will be highly motivated individual who has excellent care values, and a strong sense of team spirit to join our team to deliver high quality care.

The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will work as an autonomous practitioner within a defined clinical area, in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.

There will one post based at the West Cumberland Hospital and post holder will focus on general respiratory including non-invasive ventilation.

There will also be a post based at CIC where post holder will focus on pleural disease and pulmonary nodule work.

There will also be an expectation to be able to work across site to meet the needs of the service etc.

The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will be required to work within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines and hold advanced physical assessment skills.

The successful post holder will be required to use their independent judgment to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of respiratory patients within a defined clinical area.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Respiratory Department is responsible for providing care of those with respiratory illness and lung cancer within secondary care at both outpatient and inpatient delivery.

The department acts as a source of expertise to medical inpatients working collaboratively with inpatient wards to ensure safe effective care of acute patients.

The department also acts as secondary care providing expertise, assessment, investigation, diagnostics and management to outpatients, referred following either acute admission or community referrals.

  • To work independently at a specialist clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making clinical treatment decisions based on advanced assessment.

o To provide clinical leadership and support regarding respiratory care to the nursing teams across the Trust and support colleagues in developing the Trust’s respiratory service to improve the patient experience.

o To support Consultants with day to day clinical activity (to be determined according to need of specialist area).

o To provide in-patient areas with consistent high quality care and support of respiratory issues

Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • 1st Level Degree

  • Prepared to work towards necessary respiratory qualifications
  • Recognised mentoring qualification

Knowledge

  • Experience of caring for patients with respiratory illness.
  • Experience of multi-professional working
