We are delighted to be expanding our established nursing team within our friendly and forward thinking Neurodevelopmental Pathway, which includes Autism (ASD) assessment and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Services.

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and committed Nurses who will work closely with our Autism and ADHD teams to participate in safe and effective assessments for our Children, Young People and their families.

You will be expected to liaise with the wider system across health, education and social care to offer the best possible support to families of children with suspected ASD & ADHD.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the neurodevelopmental pathway team aimed at improving the care of children with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) across the city, both pre and post diagnosis.

The nurse led service will demand skills in child and family centred care, with experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside medical and other health, educational and voluntary services.

The post holder will be supervised by the ADHD Nursing – Team Leader. This will maximise professional development and reflective practice and help in dealing with difficult issues that arise.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse BSc (Hons)Level 1 RGN or Equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development within the last two years
  • Independent/ Supplementary prescriber (V300) to prescribe medication for ADHD diagnosed patients on team caseload

Desirable

  • ENB 998 or equivalent

  • Independently mobile with ability to travel to fulfil job requirements.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within and awareness of issues relating to management of ADHD including assessment of highly complex and co-morbid presentations of children, young people, their families and carers within this client group
  • Experience and ability to demonstrate sound knowledge of standard setting and audit processes
  • Ability to demonstrate individual responsibility in respect of Health and Safety
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of children’s development
  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness of Child Protection procedures and issues
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively to clients, their families and other professionals including dealing with sensitive, complex and difficult to receive information, using methods such as written, verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective health education programmes to parent/carers, educational settings and other professionals

Desirable

  • Extensive experience within children’s services for special educational needs, or learning disability

  • Knowledge and application of NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional practice
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical skills
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes effecting the NHS and Social Services, particularly those affecting primary care
  • Ability to demonstrate written skills that are relevant, accurate, concise and legible
  • Experience of working with individuals with complex and diverse needs
  • Awareness of needs of ethnic minority clients/carers
