BOA National Future Leaders Fellowship – Foot & Ankle

This Trust can facilitate a BOA Future Leaders Fellowship, a scheme designed for trainees who have ideally passed their FRCS (T&O) examination or finished at least 4 years of Registrar training and wish to gain specialist surgical experience in foot and ankle surgery prior to applying for a Consultant post. All Fellows must be members of the BOA. If successful, individuals must apply direct to the BOA for a place on the Future Leaders scheme.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with the Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeons, concentrating upon foot and ankle surgery, including ankle joint replacements, arthroscopic ankle surgery and complex foot and ankle trauma surgery. They will have a weekly planned fellow operating list for treating patients who have been referred by the general trauma team but require the expertise of the foot and ankle team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council or within 12 months of their CCT
  • MRCS/MBBS
  • FRCS (T&O)

Desirable

  • An additional higher qualification relevant to the specialty
  • MSc or PHD
  • Academic excellence

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience of 4 years or equivalent at Specialist Registrar grade, 2 years of which within trauma and orthopaedics speciality.
  • Previous foot & ankle surgery experience
  • Evidence of completion of basic surgical training
  • Evidence of ALS
  • Validated logbook indicating appropriate operative experience
  • Confidence in operative work and inpatient care
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • An understanding/experience of trauma, with the flexibility to work/deliver care as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Up to date ATLS
  • Evidence of middle grade experience in trauma and orthopaedics
