Job Summary

The Business Insight Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of data-driven analytics solutions that enhance operational and clinical decision-making within the healthcare setting. Working under the guidance of the Lead Business Insight Analyst and the Head of Business Insight, this role involves assisting in the integration of diverse data sources and the application of data science techniques to generate actionable insights that align with the Group’s strategic and operational objectives.

 

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include contributing to the development and refinement of data models for forecasting, activity planning, and demand vs capacity analysis. The Business Insight Analyst will support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Group’s suite of performance tools, ensuring data accuracy and relevance while identifying trends and patterns that inform critical business decisions.

The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, such as operational managers, care group leads, and the wider Information Management team, to translate business requirements into technical solutions. This includes utilising business intelligence tools and statistical methods to extract, analyse, and visualise data, ensuring outputs are structured in a meaningful and accessible manner for end users.

The postholder will ensure compliance with data governance framework, requiring them to uphold data security, regulatory requirements, and patient confidentiality while maintaining data quality standards. The role emphasises professional development, with the Business Insight Analyst expected to stay informed of the latest trends in healthcare analytics, participate in training programs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Information Management, Data Science, Business Intelligence, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Desirable

  • MSc in Healthcare Data Management, Analytics, or a related discipline
  • Relevant professional qualifications in Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, SQL certification)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g., courses in leadership, management, or technical expertise related to Data Science/Statistics)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of healthcare data and how to navigate healthcare data to provide answers to support key operational planning decisions
  • Sound knowledge base of the NHS, the current issues, its values and principles of timely local access for the population

Desirable

  • Knowledge of national policy, the NHS long term plan, NHS priorities and national planning guidance
  • Knowledge of clinical governance

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of using internal / external benchmarking data to identify efficiency opportunities

Desirable

  • Significant relevant experience within an acute NHS hospital organisation within a relevant role
  • Experience of risk management

Skills

Essential

  • Exceptionally high level of numeracy, analytical skills and ability in health-based modelling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design, develop, and implement scalable data solutions
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, able to translate complex data insights into actionable information for diverse audiences
  • Capability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, understanding their needs, and aligning solutions accordingly
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office applications, databases, and data science tools

Desirable

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs
  • Proficiency in Data Science tools and programming languages for data interrogation and analysis
