Job Summary

The post holder will work as part of a specialist CAMHS team and support clinical practitioners, as well as children and young people who are referred to the service. The role is part of the Single Point of Access (SPOA) service.

The post holder will work flexibly, continue to develop and undertake a varied range of delegated tasks and will report to a registered professional. It is anticipated this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies to be determined by South Manchester CAMHS

Main duties of the job

To undertake duties delegated by suitably regulated healthcare professionals. Working within the boundaries set out by the regulated professional, the role enables the post holder to make a limited assessment of patient need and act upon their assessment.

To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of children, young people and parents/carers by providing quality evidence-based care. The post holder will follow explicit protocols, policy and procedures.

To contribute to and undertake triage of new referrals to the service, including assessment of risk and identification of safeguarding concerns.

To respond to queries into the service from service users and other professionals with support from senior clinical staff as appropriate

To communicate effectively with young people, their families and carers, other professionals and agencies and to maintain a high degree of professionalism

To undertake assessments of the mental health of young people including risk assessment and identification of safeguarding concerns, and to contribute to care planning and safety planning.

To provide a high quality of care to young people and their parents/careers within the agreed scope and competency and to seek further advice and support from professionally registered staff where necessary.

To participate in the training and development of others

To undertake ongoing supervision of the routine work of support workers and other staff delegated by their supervisor.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care OR
  • NVQ 2 in health-related area (or equivalent AND
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • NVQ 3 in health-related area or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of an Assistant Practitioner in a single point of access environment
  • Understanding and adherence to boundaries of practice
  • Knowledge of issues that affect the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for children and vulnerable adults

Desirable

  • Presentation/teaching and training skills in mental health
  • Experience of family work/group work
  • Knowledge of child development

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and young people with mental health conditions
  • Experience of working with children and young people with neurodiversity
  • Experience of working autonomously and using own initiative
  • Experience of working with risk and following reporting procedures

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a mental health team
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team or working with a wide range of professionals
  • Experience of providing individual and group interventions to children, young people and their families
