Job Summary

An exciting position has arisen within Hywel Dda University Health Board for a Care After Death/Bereavement Manager. You will establish a Care after Death service, and oversee the implementation of the National Bereavement Services Framework. You will develop key working relationships with stakeholders including the Coroner’s office, Medical Examiner’s office and Police force, to drive a culture of continual improvement and innovation for Care After Death (CAD) and Bereavement services.

 

Main duties of the job

Delivery and continuous improvement of an effective Care after Death Service. This will be based upon national evidence-based practice in line with the legal requirements, Health Board policies and procedures.

Ensuring the Health Board is fully implementing the national bereavement services framework and associated bereavement pathways.

Supporting the Health Board in engaging with communities and stakeholders around bereavement and care after death.

Working with all stakeholders, inform and develop a Health Board Bereavement and Care after Death Strategy and implementation plan.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Master’s Degree or Equivalent Demonstrable Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive Supervisory/Management Experience
  • Significant experience of working in the application of current and past death certification regulations, as applied within NHS Wales
  • Evidence of Grief/Bereavement/End of life practice

Desirable

  • Counselling qualifications
  • Experience of working in the NHS/community
  • Leadership and/or Project Management Qualification
  • Knowledge of working practices within a Mortuary environment
  • Knowledge of documentation required after death and care of the deceased from different religious faiths
  • Knowledge of the Medical Examiner Services in Wales

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of setting up and establishing a successful service
  • Experience in conducting audits, formulating risk assessments/SOPs
  • Staff management and Co-ordination
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of managing complaints and investigating incidents
  • Experience of managing highly complex and sensitive issues
  • Experience of working with the MS Office suite, as a minimum word and excel

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within an environment dealing with deceased persons.

Essential

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
