Job summary
Working as part of the Community Children’s Nursing Team, supporting the team leader/Band 6 with prioritising daily workload and caseload management. Providing efficient, effective and evidence-based nursing care to children and young people in community settings, undertaking nursing procedures in accordance with Whittington Health guidelines and policies. Maintaining competence in recognising and managing life-threatening emergencies in children at home and responding appropriately, while participating in safeguarding and child protection procedures, including attendance at case conferences with the team leader/Band 6.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and the safe management of patient records, prioritising workload according to clinical needs, and managing a caseload of patients to provide ongoing care within the home setting. Working across Hospital @ Home and CCNT, undertaking blood sampling in homes, schools and health centres, sleep studies, caseload reviews and IV therapy in line with Trust guidelines. Supporting the day-to-day running of the service, participating in supervision, and supporting the development of nurses and students through shadowing opportunities.

- Recent experience of general children’s nursing in either a community or hospital setting
- RSCN qualification
- Being able to work autonomously without constant supervision.
- Team work
Desirable
- Specialist Practitioner in Children’s Nursing Course or similar qualification
- Experience of nursing in a diverse inner city community setting
- Car driver
- CVAD competent
CCN
Essential
- Experience of mentoring students
- Competent with all routes on medication inc PO, IV, IM
Desirable
- Specialist skills – i.e. catheters, CVADs, Cytarabine competent

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to prioritise clinical workload
- Able to demonstrate awareness of safeguarding and Child Protection
