Job summary

We are seeking a compassionate Band 6 Children’s Community Nurse to join our Brent Children’s Community Nursing Team on a part-time fixed-term contract until 3rd of September 2027, based in Wembley.

Working across children’s homes, schools and nurseries, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people with a range of complex health needs. You will assess, plan and provide specialist care, including tracheostomy care, central venous access, enteral feeding and intravenous therapies, while working closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to deliver seamless, child-centred care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide information, education and emotional support to children, young people and their families, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care and ongoing health needs.
  • Promote health education and wellbeing by providing advice, guidance and practical support to children, families and carers, encouraging self-management where appropriate.
  • Maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control, ensuring the safe handling and disposal of body fluids, clinical waste and contaminated sharps in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Work autonomously as a lone practitioner within the community, confidently managing your own caseload while receiving clinical support, supervision and guidance from the Children’s Community Nursing Team Leads.

Education/ Qualification

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration for children’s nursing
  • Evidence of post registration study / learning over the past two years.
  • Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines

  • Teaching Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of at least 1 year of working as a registered children’s nurse in a community nursing role
  • Recent experience within as acute/community setting
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution
  • Teaching in the practice situation
  • Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload

Desirable

  • Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload
  • Experience of managing staff within a team
  • Managing a safeguarding caseload
