The Children’s Safeguarding Team offer a Safeguarding service for children from birth to 18yrs, providing guidance, supervision & training to all staff at UHSussex.
This is a full time, fixed term 12 month position offering Maternity Cover for the current post holder
Duties involve managing safeguarding concerns & referrals, advocating for vulnerable children in contact with the Trust. The team collaborates with local Safeguarding Partners to ensure the best possible outcomes for children. You will be actively involved in the planning & implementation of safeguarding training, and support the delivery of safeguarding supervision to the MDT and also receive regular supervision by senior members of the Safeguarding Team.
You will be involved in practice improvement projects , such as Newsletters and ‘Case of The Month’. You will also be a ‘Neglect Champion’ within the Trust.
This role is based at Worthing Hospital with a requirement for cross-site working at St. Richard’s Hospital on occasions. You will be supported to develop your safeguarding knowledge & experience through management of different Safeguarding caseloads and establishing relationships with the wider MDT on both sites.

Main duties of the job
To communicate effectively with children and families
To have daily responsibility for the scrutiny of all paediatric attendances to the hospital urgent care settings (Emergency Department and wards)
To undertake liaison with health care professionals and partner agencies and maintain effective processes
To escalate concerns in accordance with the trust and multi-agency guidance
To participate in the organisation and delivery of safeguarding training for clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust.
To be knowledgeable of the NMC code of conduct and to be accountable for practice in accordance with that code, along with the Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2019)
To support the Named Nurse and wider team members in issues relating to safeguarding children.
To foster and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders in relation to safeguarding children.

Qualifications
Essential
- Children’s Nurse/ Midwife/ SCPHN
- Teaching qualification / experience
- Evidence of resilience / passion for safeguarding
Desirable
- Experience in a variety of clinical settings
- Experience in safeguarding children practice
