Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical nurse specialist in children’s epilepsy to join our well established and supportive epilepsy team based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
The successful applicant will join the specialist nursing team in delivering the highest standards of epilepsy nursing care to children , young people and their family within the North Derbyshire area. This will be delivered through a variety of ways including outpatients clinics, inpatient contacts on the children’s ward or community settings such as homes and schools.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who has a wealth of experience in working with children and young people diagnosed with epilepsy. The successful applicant will be registered children’s nurse who is passionate about providing high quality epilepsy nursing care and support to children, young people and their family.
You will have the ability to work as part of the epilepsy team and autonomously where required, within the parameters of clinical guidelines/polices and scope of professional practice.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively, providing specialist epilepsy advice to other agencies including social care, education and wider health colleagues. you will be required to organise your own workload, whilst considering epilepsy team and other service demands.
The successful candidate will be a non-medical prescriber or have a willingness to work towards this within an agreed timescale.

Qualifications
Essential
- 1st level degree or equivalent experience
- 1st level registered Children’s Nurse
- Epilepsy specialist related qualification (for example BPNA Paediatric Epilepsy Training)
- V300 Non-medical nurse prescriber qualification (or willing to work towards within an agreed time scale)
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Advanced communication course/qualification
Desirable
- Master’s degree level learning or prepared to work towards
- Epilepsy specialist course at degree or diploma level
- Community Nursing degree (or equivalent)
- Leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience working as a CNS for children and young people with epilepsy
- Experience of managing a defined caseloads and prioritising care
- Ability to conduct nurse led clinics
- Awareness of quality assurance/peer review process
- Management and leadership experience
- MDT/multiagency working within other settings including acute, community, primary and tertiary health care. Able to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations
- Change management
- Awareness of quality assurance/peer review process

- Sound negotiation skills, with the ability to deal with difficult or challenging situations.
- Effective communication skills
- Understanding of confidentiality and information governance with excellent record keeping
