Job summary

We are looking for a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist with relevant experience and training to the deliver specialist 1:1/Group interventions with adult male prisoners at HMP/YOI Norwich prison.

Within the team you will be working with a multidisciplinary team inclusive of Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists, Therapists, occupational Therapist, Assistant Practitioners, as well as prison based professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at HMP Norwich. The role will involve working closely with the Mental Health In Reach team providing a specialist assessment and intervention provision , complimenting the current multi-disciplinary team

You will be working with men who may self-harm, have attempted suicide, and/or experience high levels of anxiety or trauma/PTSD. The role includes having an active contribution in reducing self-harm, self destructive and violent behaviour.

Clinical: Provision of specialist psychology assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions for individuals and groups, referred to the service.

Training & Development: Supporting and where appropriate implementing and delivering training to embed psychologically informed practices within the multidisciplinary team, supporting a stepped care model of psychological care.

Staff Wellbeing & Resilience: Promote staff wellbeing by leading reflective supervision and post-incident support enhancing resilience and retention in challenging environments.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oPost Graduate Degree (or equivalent) in Clinical/Forensic Psychology, accredited by the BPS
  • oOngoing Specialist training/accredited short courses
  • oRegistered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC

Desirable

  • oEvidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • oTheory and practice of specialised psychological interventions

Experience

Essential

  • oExperience working as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist and are able to evidence appropriate knowledge/experience in practice
  • oExperience of working with a variety and severity client groups and clinical problems in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
  • oExperience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment

Desirable

  • oExperience of representing psychology within MDT settings (clinical and organisational)
  • oExperience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post
  • oExperience of supervision and teaching

Skills

Essential

  • oSkilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • oWell-developed communication skills (oral and written)
  • oAble to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals inside and outside of the NHS
  • oSkills in consultation to professional and non-professional groups
  • oSkills in training and supervision. Skills in creating and delivering presentations and training programmes

Desirable

  • oExperience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post
  • oskills in neuropsychological assessment

Knowledge

Essential

  • oDoctor level knowledge of research design, methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis
  • oKnowledge of mental health legislation within specialist clinical contex
  • oEvidence of CPD as recommended by the BPS

Desirable

  • oWell-developed knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological intervention and assessment in specialist clinical service-user groups

Other

Essential

  • oAble to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours
  • oAble to use multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
  • oAbility to travel independently

Desirable

  • oExperience of working within a multicultural framework
  • oExperience of providing specific support and intervention and strategy for staff
