An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) team as a band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to support the development and running of the T&O service here at UHCW NHS Trust.

The post holder will work alongside our band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist in the running of the team and service development in this area. This will include supervision of staff, annual PDR, sickness monitoring, team audit programme and organising/supervision of students on placement. The T&O team is a large team that consists of band 5 and band 6 Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, band 4 therapy practitioners and band 3 therapy assistants.

Your clinical caseload will cover our 2 T&O wards where you will clinically reason to formulate accurate diagnosis & prognosis on a wide range of highly complex conditions to recommend the best course of intervention and comprehensive treatment plans. This fantastic opportunity also includes working on our Major Trauma Enhanced Care Unit (MTECU) where you will analyse, treat and work cohesively with our dedicated Major Trauma Team and MDT.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

You will see a variety of patients including, but not limited to, spinal cord injuries, head injuries and multiple fractures. You will need to demonstrate experience in these clinical areas. You will need to be able to evidence that you are able to work under pressure to ensure patients are seen a timely way using either agreed protocols of treatment and/or clinical reasoning to ensure successful outcomes for the patients.

This role would also provide the opportunity to showcase your leadership and training skills by developing the training program delivered to therapy staff. This includes providing spontaneous & planned advice, teaching & instruction to relatives, carers & other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of the Therapy Department and to ensure a constant approach to patient care.

Your development needs will be identified through regular supervision and appraisals and supported through external/ internal courses, in-service training and case reviews.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oDiploma/ degree in Physiotherapy oCurrent HCPC registration oRelevant post graduate training in specialist area oClinical leadership training / experience oEvidence of relevant CPD for Major Trauma, Orthopaedic and Respiratory Physiotherapy

Desirable

  • oRisk management training/experience oMembership of special interest group relevant to specialist area

Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive clinical experience within acute Trauma and Orthopaedic setting oWide Clinical experience of acute Major Trauma within an acute setting oRespiratory experience, including the management of acutely unwell patients, those with tracheostomies and spinal cord injuries oExperience of supporting and managing staff / students oExperience of recruitment and selection oAudit and service improvement oEvidence of training staff / developing training programmes.
