Job Summary

We are looking to appoint a Cancer CNS Support Worker to work within the established Cancer Support Worker Team based within the Sunrise Centre. Candidates must have extensive administration, and organisational skills along with excellent communication and people skills, ideally with a good understanding of NHS healthcare systems and processes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also support the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) by providing a robust administration and support service, which will involve managing phone calls, coordinating pathways and appointments, requesting diagnostics, expediting imaging requests, requesting transport, completing STRATA referrals and assisting with CNS clinic management and in some cases supporting patient groups and forums alongside the CNSs. The post holder will also be expected to attended MDT’s and support surveillance programs.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience e.g. good knowledge across a range of health or social care settings.

Desirable

  • Courses/further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development.
  • NVQ Level 3.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Experiance

Essential

  • Extensive administrative and organisational experience. Experience in the use of hospital computerised patient systems. Extensive experience communicating and being main point of contact for patients.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of cancer pathways and treatments

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills. Proven ability to work to deadlines, prioritise and multi-task. Friendly and approachable manner Polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic. Flexibility – able to work flexibly to accommodate peaks and troughs of activity. Reliability.

Desirable

  • Experience in systems such as PAS, Maxims, CRIS, SCR, Scorpio, Winpath
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
