Job summary
The Trust is continuing to build its portfolio in order to develop research locally and improve access to clinical trials for the people of Warrington and Halton. The benefits of active participation in research are well recognised in leading to successful outcomes for patients as well as helping ensure our clinical staff stays abreast of the latest possible treatment options.
An opportunity for an 18 month fixed term role, funded by the NIHR Research Delivery Network, to increase research activity in the community.
The post holder will be a member of an established team and responsible for co-ordinating an agreed portfolio of research studies. The successful applicant may be an experienced research nurse, midwife or allied health professional (NMAHP) or an NMAHP looking to move into research as full training will be given.
The successful applicant will be self-motivated, excellent at working both independently and with a team, professionally curious with fantastic communication skills, attention to detail and ability to form productive working relationships. This role is pivotal to increasing the capacity to deliver research in the community at North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities of the post include supporting building research capacity in community, assisting study set up, identifying patients through screening notes, collecting data, interviewing, supporting, and monitoring patients and data entry.
If the successful candidate is a registered nurse, the role will include remote on call duties for which full training will be provided.

Experience
Essential
- Previous experience of research or demonstrable interest
- Clinical experience / qualification in venepuncture or willingness to train skill
- Clinical experience of interpretation of investigations
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience post-qualification with professional registration
Desirable
- Previous experience of commercial research
- Current certificate in ICH Good Clinical Practice
Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience
- Current registration as a Nurse, Midwife, or Allied Health Professional
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant field
Skills, knowledge and competencies
Essential
- Ability to use a personal computer, (computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office / EDCL)
- Skills in administration of research and project management
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of clinical trials
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Clinical Research Practitioner and scope of professional practice
- Knowledge of ethical and quality standards applicable to clinical trials
Desirable
- Skills in handling and management of computerised data (e.g. the abstraction and coding of medical data, computer data entry, statistical analysis, report generation and data validation)
- Knowledge of the Health Service, R&D, the pharmaceutical industry partnership and relevant information sciences
