We have a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly department in the heart of beautiful Cornwall.

As the only Cancer Centre for the county of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, the Sunrise Centre at RCHT provides a full range of cancer treatments for our patients as close to home as possible. We are early adopters of new treatments and have:

large and active clinical trial portfolio, being second highest recruiters in the Peninsula and highest for commercial trial activity.

We are regularly in the top 5 departments in the country for radiotherapy treatments per machine and treatment complexity.

We are commissioned for SABR to Lung, bone, and nodal sites.

We continue to be the highest scoring Trust in the South-West in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey with our highly trained specialist nurses notably praised.

With £135 million in new investments, the Trust has opened a brand new Haematology-Oncology Inpatient Unit in Summer 2023.

Main duties of the job

  • To work alongside two consultants in Breast cancers to develop and strengthen treatment opportunities for these patients.
  • To work alongside a consultant colleague in HPB cancers to develop and strengthen treatment opportunities for these patients. This role provides supervisory oversight for the nurse and Oncology Specialty Doctor led NET service.
  • To take part, promote and develop our extensive and innovative clinical trials portfolio.
  • To take responsibility for the designated clinical workload including MDT meetings, out-patient clinics, radiotherapy treatment planning and in-patient care.
  • To develop and promote protocols relating to treatment options for patients
  • To participate in the on-call rota and develop leadership skills within the department.
  • To help provide teaching for junior staff and medical students in the department
  • To comply with all the clinical governance processes and procedures of the Trust
  • To maintain Continuing Professional Development accreditation as per Royal College of Radiologists or Royal College of Physicians guidelines
  • To participate in the Trust appraisal programme and GMC revalidation processes.
  • The Trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Radiologists and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to Practice
  • FRCR
  • On GMC Specialty Register – Or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview

Experience

Essential

  • Teaching medical students
  • Experienced in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance
