Job summary

We are seeking a Consultant Dermatologist to join our established Dermatology service in a combined Adult and Paediatric Dermatology role. The post is available flexibly at 4-10 PAs (0.4-1.0 WTE) and will include outpatient clinics, skin cancer services, teledermatology, advice and guidance, virtual activity and clinical supervision. The successful candidate will contribute to both Adult and Paediatric Dermatology, with the final job plan agreed according to contracted PAs and service requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality Adult and Paediatric Dermatology outpatient services.
  • Participate in skin cancer services, including 2WW clinics and MDT activity as required.
  • Contribute to teledermatology, virtual clinics and Advice & Guidance services.
  • Provide timely assessment and management of acute dermatology and inpatient referrals.
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to junior doctors and dermatology nursing staff.
  • Contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.

Shortlisting criteria

Essential

  • On GMC’s specialist register relevant to the post or a Specialist Registrar who is within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC’s specialist register by date of interview MRCP (or equivalent) Highest level of Child Protection training

Relevant experience

Essential

  • Experience in Adult and paediatric Dermatology. Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Experience/interest in a specialist area e.g. hair

Clinical skills

Essential

  • Competence across whole UK dermatology curriculum.

Leadership and professionalism

Essential

  • Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service need.

Desirable

  • Familiar with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes

Management skills

Essential

  • Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospital operates Understanding of the importance of good clinical coding

Desirable

  • Management of team or programme or project

Teaching & training

Essential

  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching

Desirable

  • Experience of educational supervision, teaching skills course/ qualification

Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Evidence of contribution to effective audit and clinical risk management

Communication skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English IT skills and computer literacy

Desirable

  • Computer skills course/certificate

Research

Essential

  • Understanding of principles and application of clinical research

Desirable

  • Relevant research experience Publication of peer reviewed papers
