Consultant Endocrinologist West of England Gender Clinic: Sponsorship Available

Devon Partnership NHS Trust

Job summary

This
is a distinctive opportunity for a Consultant Endocrinologist to help shape to
continue high-quality gender healthcare at the West of England Specialist
Gender Identity Clinic. Working remotely for one programmed activity each week,
you will bring specialist endocrine expertise to an experienced
multidisciplinary service and provide advice on gender-affirming hormone
therapy for the prescribing team. The role is primarily advisory and supervisory rather than one of routine
direct patient management. You will support medical and non-medical prescribers
with complex clinical decisions, strengthen prescribing governance and help
develop evidence-based practice across the service. You will have scope to
influence protocols, education and service development while working
collaboratively with colleagues who are committed to person-centred care and
continuous improvement.

We welcome applications from consultants who want to use their endocrine
expertise in a focused, clinically influential role. Job-share applications are
welcomed.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist endocrine advice to the clinics
medical and non-medical prescribing teams on medical readiness for GAHT,
treatment initiation, adjustment, monitoring and ongoing management. You will
advise on complex cases, including physical health comorbidity, treatment
complications, atypical blood results, contraindications, clinical risk and
uncertainty about treatment options.

You will review cases submitted through the agreed referral process, provide
documented specialist recommendations and contribute to multidisciplinary
discussion when required. This includes advising on individualised care for
people with non-binary gender goals and liaising with primary, secondary and
specialist services where needed.

You will contribute to the weekly hormone prescribing forum, offering
case-based advice and teaching as time allows. You will also support the
development and specialist review of prescribing guidelines, standard operating
procedures, clinical protocols, shared-care agreements and teaching materials.
The role includes supporting prescriber education and safe practice, and
contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service
