Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated colleague to join our established team of general paediatricians and our Children’s Diabetes Team. We will be looking for someone with experience in diabetes care (ideally SPIN – not essential, can be supported in post) and endocrine experience to join our team. There are 10 programmed activities available. The postholder will join 2 other consultants based on our Musgrove Park Hospital site as part of our multidisciplinary diabetic team and enabling us to continue to meet the Department of Health Best Practice guidelines for paediatric diabetes.

Our service provides acute, community and mental health services across the county through Musgrove Park Hospital, Yeovil Hospital and a fully integrated network of children’s services. Main duties of the job
Consultant post: General paediatric posts with opportunity for sub-specility interest in care for CYP in our diabetes and endocrinology services to include acute paediatric on call rotas that are RCPCH facing the future compliant. Full time 10PAs, or less than full time will be considered.

Qualifications
Essential
- *Medical Degree
- *Full GMC with a Licence to Practice
- *To have achieved a CCT OR
- *Can provide evidence that he/she is within 6 months of the CCT date at the time of interview, and is expected to achieve CCT
- *MRCPCH or equivalent
- *On Specialist Register
- *APLS
Desirable
- *Diabetes SPIN qualification
Experience
Essential
- *Expertise in General Paediatrics
- *Expertise/training in managing child safeguarding
- *Experience of working in Diabetes
Desirable
- *Experience in endocrinology

- *Understanding of clinical risk management.
- *Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
- *Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical and scientific approach.
- *Ability to mentor staff both medical and nursing
- *Evidence of a good standard of Literacy / English language skills
- *Ability to prioritize clinical need
- *Ability to organize oneself and own work
- *Evidence of participation in audit
- *Willingness to take a lead in developing/managing a clinical area
- *Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints.
