Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

This a new post and is for a full time Substantive Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist. This post is based in Swansea but some duties may be held in other parts of the Health Board. It is offered on the amended terms of the Consultant Contract.

The post is offered initially on a 10-session contract with on call commitments. The department is willing to consider flexible working arrangements depending on the individual needs of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and should reside within 30 minutes (approx. 10 miles) of their base hospital.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work this number of sessions would also be eligible to be considered for the post, and the post is subject to the terms and conditions of service governing the appointment of hospital medical and dental staff in Wales.

GYNAECOLOGICAL ONCOLOGY SERVICE:

The Swansea Gynaecological Oncology Centre (SGOC) is based at Singleton Hospital and serves a population of approximately one million patients. A full complement of specialist and supportive services are provided, with surgical and non-surgical oncology teams based at the same site. In addition to Singleton hospital the surgical team provides services at Morriston hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

• Fully Registered with the GMC and licensed to practice
• FRCOG (or appropriate specialist qualification in OBGYN)
• On Specialist Register with more than 10 years of receiving CCT (or equivalent)
• Certificate of completion of sub-specialty training in Gynaecological-oncology

Desirable

• Higher degree (MD or PhD)?more than two publications in international peer review journals at the time of starting subspecialty training
• Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education/Experience as Honorary Lecturer in UK university
• Colposcopy accreditation with BSCCP

Experience

Essential

• Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (“Working Together”)
• Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service (“Always Improving”)
• Values partnership with other agencies (“Working Together”)
• Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff/Subspecialty fellows
• Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
• Evidence of active participation in gynaecological oncology research including peer reviewed national and international publications
• Evidence of proficiency in surgical management of gynaecological cancers including minimal access surgery including robotic surgery, cytoreductive surgery, bowel surgery and upper abdominal surgeryand all facets of pre and postoperative care

Desirable

• Evidence of extensive work experience in an accredited UK gynaecological oncology centre
