Job summary
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and motivated Consultant in Clinical Haematology to complete our complement of a team of 7 consultants at The Royal Oldham Hospital. An interest in haematological malignancies is essential and developing subspeciality interest is desirable. Visits can be arranged for candidates in order to appreciate the quality of life our hospitals and the surrounding area can offer.
The successful candidate can expect :
- 10PA basic contract, which includes 1 PA for on call, and further PAs could be allocated according to job planning and based on service demand and Trust requirements.
- Support to develop own subspeciality interest.
- Become involved in teaching, training, and research.
- Developing leadership skills and supporting the service development
Main duties of the job
- Delivering better healthcare by inspiring and supporting everyone we work with and challenging ourselves and others to help improve outcomes for all.
- Provide Consultant Haematologist duties including outpatient and inpatient care, advice and guidance to other professionals and an on-call commitment.
- Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Haematology Department.
- Ensure maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of haematology patients.
- Assist in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff and medical students.
- Actively participate in research and quality improvement projects.
- Actively participate in Departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
- Work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external links to the Trust and service users to ensure the creation of a quality service.
- Commit to shared goals in the department by building effective teams and partnerships and valuing the roles and contributions of others.
- Contribute to development of bispecific antibody and innovative therapy pathways, including clinical governance, pathway mapping and multidisciplinary education.
- Work closely with Salford Royal, MFT, The Christie and Greater Manchester HODS to support integrated regional pathways for complex patients.

Professional Registration
Essential
- Registration on the GMC Specialist Register-CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or equivalence)
Qualifications
Essential
- Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB).
- The MRCP and FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent training and experience.
- Completion of PMETB-approved JRCPTB curriculum in Haematology or evidence of equivalence in knowledge, training and experience.
Desirable
- Post Graduate Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential
- Ability to interpret and report on laboratory data
- Broad knowledge and expertise in clinical haematology and general medicine
- Experience in haematological malignancy
Desirable
- Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments
- Experience or interest in bispecific antibody delivery, innovative therapies or advanced haemato-oncology pathways.
