Job summary
This advert is for a replacement permanent Consultant post within the Hepatology Service at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will have a specific focus on Viral Hepatitis and the South East London (SEL) Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN) which is hosted here at King’s. The ODNs form a national framework of networks specialist commissioned to deliver on the Hepatitis C Elimination Programme and recently expanded to also include Hepatitis B. In addition, the individual will be the clinical lead for the Community Liver Health Checks workstream across SEL and wider Liver Surveillance initiatives being driven by South East London Cancer Alliance and overseen by the ODN.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established programme driving delivery of national, regional and local priorities, including the NHS 10 Year Plan (2025) and NHS Cancer Plan (2026). This role supports the shift from hospital to community, advances prevention through earlier diagnosis of liver disease, and tackles health inequalities by improving access to hepatitis and liver health surveillance for underserved communities.
Main duties of the job
As well as acting as key member of the Hepatology and Viral Hepatitis multi-disciplinary team at King’s, the post holder will support the ODN Programme Manager in overseeing and implementing Viral Hepatitis Elimination initiatives in SEL. This includes, but is not limited to:o Building and maintaining effective relationships with clinical leads across SEL in particular at spoke sites and GP Champions leading on the primary care elimination workstream.o Providing specialist input and guidance for projects and pieces of work within the programme.o Representing the ODN at regional and national meetings, alongside the Programme Manager and providing regular update reports both internally and externally as required.
They will also provide clinical leadership and oversight of both the SEL Community Liver Health Checks (CLHC) project and the SEL Liver Surveillance projects underway with the South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA).

Qualifications & Higher Qualifications
Essential
- Registerable medical qualification
- Full MRCP or equivalent
Desirable
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD or PhD)
Registration & Interview Eligibility
Essential
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
Desirable
- On the day of interview applicants must be within 6 months of CCT, in final stages of their portfolio pathway application, or be fully registered on the GMC Specialist Register. Any applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered.
Training and Experience
Essential
- Wide experience in all aspects of Hepatology, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or completed portfolio pathway application
Desirable
- Established experience in regional Hepatology/ Hepatitis and HCC at a senior level
Administration
Essential
- Experience in day-to-day organisation of Liver Services and the Hepatitis services in a busy Teaching Hospital
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
- Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Desirable
- Established working with multi-disciplinary stakeholders and ICS representatives
Management and Leadership

- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
