We are seeking a consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise for the Inpatient unit service on Northgate ward. This is a replacement post.

Working collaboratively with colleagues in the crisis response home treatment teams, the wards, liaison services and community teams for adults to provide a seamless pathway

Main duties of the job

Local services are currently going through rapid development with the introduction of the 24/7 initial tele-triage mental health response service, via NHS 111 option 2, and expansion of CRHT and Psychiatric Liaison Service (Core 24 initiative). Northgate ward is an integral part of the Crisis Pathway in West Suffolk and provides 18 inpatient beds to the West Suffolk population. At times there are admissions from elsewhere in the Trust. Approximately 121,400 people are registered with a GP in this area. Last year there were 160 admissions from this catchment area. This post is based alongside the rest of the multidisciplinary team on Northgate Ward, Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Entry on the GMC register
  • Section 12(2) Approved under the Mental Health Act (MHA)
  • Approved Clinician Status
  • Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCST

Experience

Essential

  • At least 6 months experience in specific specialty
  • 3 years or equivalent medical experience
  • Evidence of knowledge of diagnosis, treatment + management of complex mental illness

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
  • Teaching and presentation skills

Clinical Governance

Essential

  • A clear understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Demonstrate a commitment to open review of practice
