Job summary
We seek a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our friendly and experienced team in Beechlydene Ward, Fountain Way, Salisbury. Our objective is for Beechlydene Ward to be the best provider of working age adult in-patient care in the region.
They will work with ward staff on quality improvement, including introducing innovative practice, improving safety, engagement with carers and psycho-education for patients.
Contribute to local academic programme teaching junior doctors, medical students and staff in allied professions. In addition, there is a monthly PDP group and Peer Supervision. CPD activities are supported. The post offers study leave arrangements as well as good research, service development and leadership opportunities.
Main duties of the job
Some of the main duties of the job are;
Assess and treat service users in Beechlydene.
o Deliver interventions to service users at a level of intensity according to need, including include on-going assessment, diagnosis
o Attend and lead regular MDT meetings and support the team with medical input as required.
o Participate in CPA meetings for service users.
o Undertake urgent psychiatric assessments when necessary.
o Liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
o Write up all patient notes using the Trusts Electronic Record system (Rio)
o Ensure effective and timely documentation and communication of clinical decision-making and management plans.
o Maintain Approved Clinician and Section 12 approval, which are requirements of the post.
o Liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
o Liaise with the Intensive and Inpatient services as appropriate to facilitate the smooth handover of clients between services.
o Prepare (can delegate) Mental Health Act Tribunal reports and participate in Mental Health Act Tribunal meetings
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Experience

- Experience of assessing and treating patients in a community setting.

- To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
