The neurology department will be appointing a Neurology Consultants due to the current post holder retiring over the next year therefore, applications are invited for consultant neurologist with a special interest in Movement Disorders or Epilepsy (other sub specialities will be considered).
The Movement Disorder (MD) service at UHCW NHS Trust is led by four consultants and has developed an excellent reputation for early uptake of new PD treatments, offering subcutaneous foslevodopa-fascarbidopa and other devise-aided treatments.
There are two hospital-based Parkinson’s nurse specialists based at UHCW with six community Parkinson’s nurse specialists covering Coventry and Warwickshire. The team also comprises a senior clinical fellow in Movement Disorders. From a research perspective, UHCW is a Tier 3 site for the Edmond J Safra Accelerating Clinical Trials in Parkinson’s Disease. A dedicated Parkinson’s research nurse has recently been appointed.
Main duties of the job
As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi.
You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.

- oUK CCT in neurology or due to CCT within 6 months. Clinical Experience in General Neurology and subspecialty expertise in Movement Disorders or Epilepsy.
- oRecent experience in managing acute neurological emergencies including stroke
- oThorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice.
- oUnderstanding of the Clinical Government process
- oAbility to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
- oAbility to organise and manage out-patient priorities, waiting times/lists
- oCompetent in basic information technology
