Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a dynamic Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with interests in benign gynaecology, rapid access clinics and colposcopy.

This post includes gynaecology clinic, gynaecology operating, rapid access clinic, colposcopy, and acute gynaecology cover. The post holder will also to expand the Gynaecology Risk team, supporting the Gynaecology Clinical Lead and Gynaecology Matron in managing and reviewing incidents. The post holder will also contribute to the well-established and busy Obstetric service with day-time labour ward cover and caesarean section lists. They will participate in the out of hours on call cover for both obstetrics and gynaecology. We are currently providing 98 hours of onsite delivery suite cover per week.

Main duties of the job

All applicants should be fully registered with the General Medical Council, hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the date of interview.

The successful candidate will work as part of the consultant obstetric team, contributing to the provision of high-quality consultant-led maternity care across the service, including labour ward, maternity triage, inpatient ward areas and obstetric clinics. They will participate in the consultant obstetric on-call rota and play an active role in multidisciplinary working, clinical governance, service development, education and training within the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC registration
• MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
• CCT in O&G and on GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration
• BSCCP Colposcopy accreditation
• ATSM in Benign Gynaecology or SITM in Gynaecology Surgical Care or equivalent experience

Desirable

• MD/PhD
• ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or Labour Ward Lead
• MOET or equivalent
• Gynaecological Ultrasound Experience (evidence of official qualification and/or clinical training)

Clinical Experience

Essential

• Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT

Desirable

• Experience of both open and Minimal invasive surgery – operative hysteroscopy and laparoscopy , laparotomy

Specific Additional Skills

Essential

• Experience in developing guidelines within obstetrics
• Course in leadership skills

Desirable

• Database/computer skills

Management Skills

Essential

• Attended management training course.
• Evidence of leading service improvement, pathway redesign or transformation projects within maternity services

Desirable

• Knowledge of finance / budgets
• Evidence of working with management team on QI initiatives

Experience in Training, Audit and Research

Essential

• Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors and nursing and midwifery staff.
• Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement projects
• Experience in working in an MDT

Desirable

• Completed ‘Train the Trainers’ course.
• Demonstrate an interest in leadership of clinical audit
• Demonstrate commitment in research.
• First author research articles peer-reviewed journals
• Risk Management experience
