Job summary
Applications are invited to apply for a 5 PA consultant post in Oral Medicine based on our King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation sites: King’s College Dental Institute, Denmark Hill and Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup.
The weekly job plan includes sessions in Oral Medicine outpatients’ clinics, facial pain clinics and supervising specialist doctors in oral medicine, dental core trainees and providing specialist advice to other consultant colleagues in other dental disciplines.
Applicants must have a GDC registerable U.K. dental qualification or equivalent and be on the specialist list for oral medicine or be eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registerable UK dental qualification or equivalent
- Name on Oral Medicine Specialist register or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
Desirable
- Name on Oral Medicine Specialist register or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
Higher Qualifications
Essential
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination (ISFE) in Oral Medicine or equivalent at the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent
Desirable
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MSc, PhD or equivalent Certification in Teaching)
Registration
Essential
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)/ General Medical Council
- Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
Training and Experience
Essential
- Successful completion of an SAC approved training programme in Oral Medicine, or within six months of completion, or equivalent
Administration
Essential
- Experience in day-to-day organisation of clinical oral medicine services in a busy Teaching Hospital
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
- Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management and Leadership
Essential
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable
- Management course and/or qualification
Audit and Quality Improvement
Essential
- Thorough understanding of principles of clinical audit
- Must have undertaken and completed audit projects
- Experience of clinical research
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports
Desirable
- Audit Publications
- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of oral medicine
Teaching
Essential
- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation
Desirable
- Teaching skills course/qualification
