Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for two candidates to join our Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, & Infection Prevention and Control team.

This is a new post to strengthen our existing Infection team. The post holder will join an existing team of 7(5.7 WTE) consultants working at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust sites.

It is anticipated that the post holder will work with the existing Consultants in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology to provide a high quality clinical, laboratory and infectious diseases consult service at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex Hospitals. The post holder is also expected to take on the role of Infection Prevention and Control doctor for the Chelsea site.

The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to our patients across the Trust.

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners and on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.

Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • CCT in ID/Medical Microbiology (or within six months of CCT) or on the Specialist Register.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Fellow Royal College of Pathologists FRC Path or prior equivalent experience.
  • Previous QIP experience.

Desirable

  • Higher degree e.g. PhD or MD.
  • Research experience

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in ID/ Microbiology/ Infection Prevention and Control
  • Teaching experience / willingness to teach medical, nursing & other staff
  • Experience of audit / clinical research
  • Understanding of the NHS and its organisation

Desirable

  • Undertaken a management course
  • Completed publications in appropriate journal(s)

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Commitment to work with other consultants and members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Willingness and ability to participate in the on-call rota
  • Commitment to the achievement of Government and Trust targets

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of working with EPR systems
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Lab Information Management systems
