An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a two new Consultant Neurology post’s, with interest and expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders, to work in the South West, based in Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (or a different place in the region if preferred as a base). These posts are part of the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network, a nationally recognised network of excellence, which provides care for people living with Neuromuscular conditions in Bristol, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is a leading centre for patient care in the South West and one of the largest hospital trusts in the UK.

Main duties of the job

These post’s will involve the diagnosis, management and care of people living with Neuromuscular Disorders, their families, and carers. This includes a range of conditions, for example muscular dystrophies, neuropathies, CIDP and myasthenia. A range of treatment options, including genetic modifying therapies, are established. The service is multi-disciplinary, supported by Neuromuscular Care Advisors, Specialist Physiotherapists, and a Specialist Psychologist. The post holder’s will join the team in providing an education programme for professionals and patients.

These posts will both provide outpatient clinics in Bristol and Plymouth. One of the posts will provide clinics in Truro (12 clinics or 6 days per year) and one post will provide clinics in North Devon (12 clinics or 6 days per year).

Qualifications

Essential

• Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) orWithin 6 months of obtaining expected CCT date at time of interview CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview

Desirable

• Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

Experience

Essential

• Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Neuromuscular conditions.
• Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

Desirable

• Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

Knowledge

Essential

• Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
• Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty

Desirable

• Broad range of IT skills

• Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.
• Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
