Health and Care Jersey is seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and dynamic substantive Consultants in Neurology. The successful applicants will provide services in Neurology, in conjunction with medical and nursing colleagues.
The clinical role incorporates outpatient neurology clinics and inpatient ward referrals, for services including MND, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease, Migraine and Epilepsy.
The service has links with the regional neurosciences Centre at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and Queen’s Square, London.
The successful applicants will be expected to participate in clinical governance activity and continuing medical education sessions. A clinical governance meeting is held regularly.
The successful candidates would be expected to commit to the on-going development of care within the Medical Care Group; to take part in the education of junior medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals; to contribute to the governance activity and medical management of the department; and to foster cohesiveness and teamwork in the wider neurology team.
For newly appointed consultants, a mentor will be allocated to support their induction to the post.
Main duties of the job
Jointly develop a service of excellence for neurology which ensures a seamless integration between Jersey and tertiary centres in England.
Participate in the development of the neurology strategy for the island of Jersey including neurological services.
To work in close partnership and liaison with Primary Care and other specialist services.
To undertake inpatient specialist reviews for neurology.
To undertake outpatient clinics for neurology.
To provide clinical advice & support to primary care colleagues and other consultants within Health and Care Jersey medical model.
To deliver personalised evidence informed medical care plans to all patients that are appropriately documented and regularly evaluated.
To provide advice and timely medical reviews and interventions as part of the interdisciplinary model of care.
To participate and attend relevant services MDTs.
To liaise with tertiary referral centres as appropriate to provide patient-centered care & service improvements.
Maintain good quality up to date medical records, including timely discharge letters and summaries.
To ensure appropriate documentation and coding is used to provide consistent audit and monitoring of the service.
To adhere to local prescribing guidelines.
The post holder should be adaptable, flexible and innovative to meet the ongoing challenges within the service. The responsibilities of the role may change from time to time.
To comply with infection prevention and control requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
- Primary Medical Degree
- Higher Specialty qualification: MRCP or equivalent
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a License to practice (for overseas candidates it is mandatory that a license is obtained prior to appointment)
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (or be within 6 months of obtaining this at the date of the interview – documentary evidence of this must be provided to support your application)
- Clinical Experience in similar NHS environment or equivalent
- ALS
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Broad range of IT skills
