Job summary

We are looking to appoint a WTE Consultant Histopathologist – Paediatric & Perinatal Pathology. Based at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

SYB Histopathology is transitioning to primary Digital reporting and applications from digitally trained pathologists are welcome. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of paediatric/perinatal autopsy service, including, by agreement, paediatric medico-legal autopsies on behalf of HM Coroner, and paediatric surgical pathology.

The appointee will fully contribute to the paediatric and perinatal autopsy rota. The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to appropriate Clinical-pathological meetings and case discussions, and to liaise with clinical colleagues to ensure a high quality diagnostic service. regardless of the source.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • FRCPath (Paediatric & Perinatal) or equivalent higher qualification.

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Paediatric Perinatal Pathology.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post.
  • Willingness to use voice recognition for report dictation and adopt other appropriate workflow technologies.

Desirable

  • Subspecialty interest commensurate with the needs of the service.

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and Training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration

Essential

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Clinical Governance and Audit

Essential

  • Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
