We are looking for two experienced senior clinical leaders to join South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) as a Consultant Paramedic – Divisional Clinical Director.

Working within the Paramedical Directorate and Divisional Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidates will play a pivotal role in shaping clinical strategy, influencing professional practice, leading service development and ensuring the highest standards of patient care across the Trust.

These are consultant Paramedic positions combining three distinct but complementary responsibilities:

  • A member of the Paramedical Directorate Senior Leadership Team
  • Divisional Clinical Director within a specified Division (either Sussex or Surrey)
  • Professional Lead for a Trustwide designated specialist clinical portfolio (either Critical Care or Urgent and Emergency Care)

You will provide visible clinical leadership, champion evidence-based practice, drive innovation and quality improvement, and work collaboratively with operational, professional and system partners to deliver outstanding care for our patients and communities.

Main duties of the job

As Consultant Paramedic – Divisional Clinical Director, you will:

  • Provide strategic and professional clinical leadership across your Division
  • Lead clinical governance, quality assurance and patient safety improvement
  • Influence the development of Trust-wide and regional clinical strategy
  • Act as Head of Profession for the clinical workforce within your Division
  • Lead and support service transformation, innovation and redesign
  • Champion workforce development, education and professional standards
  • Support research, audit and evidence-based practice
  • Maintain clinical credibility through regular operational clinical practice
  • Represent the Trust at local, regional and national forums

This is a highly influential role requiring the ability to work across organisational boundaries, build effective partnerships and provide expert advice on complex clinical matters.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field
  • Diploma in Immediate Medical Care/Urgent Medical Care RCSEd/ Dip PUC or similar
  • Management/Leadership Training/Qualification or commitment to work towards
  • HCPC registered and practising Paramedic with no current sanctions

Desirable

  • PhD/Professional Doctorate

Knowledge

Essential

  • Expert clinical knowledge in the field of clinical care in the Ambulance sector
  • Current knowledge of local and national policies informing clinical care in the Ambulance Sector
  • Detailed knowledge of CoP Paramedic Curricula and Frameworks

Experience

Essential

  • Consultant level Paramedic
  • Extensive experience of working clinically in clinical care within an NHS ambulance environment
  • Experience of engaging with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience of clinical leadership in a large/complex healthcare provider organisation at a senior level
