Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic infection specialist to take up a substantive role in Coventry and Warwickshire pathology services (CWPS) as a Consultant Physician in Medical Microbiology. The candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council. They also must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at the date of interview.

Consultant Microbiologists who work within CWPS rotate to different sites. Currently the team review this yearly and adapt the rotation in line with service needs and professional development / work-life balance. Clinical on-site cover for all three Trusts may be required so it is important for applicants to have their own transport.

We support the way infection training has evolved over the years and hence we are keen to employ Consultants who share the vision of an integrated Infection Science service, developing a team across the network with a range of skill sets that will offer our patients the best infection-based care available.

Main duties of the job

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all, we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi.

You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential for this post.

  • o Broad range of Clinical Virology experience o Broad range of Clinical Microbiology experience o Broad range of Infection Prevention and Control experience

  • o Experience in clinical microbiology within the UK or a similar system abroad o Consultant level experience including acting up periods.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • o Thorough knowledge of current thinking and practice in clinical microbiology, virology and infection, prevention and control. o Thorough knowledge of medical audit and current medical best practice. o Understanding of the clinical governance process. o Ability to lead, communicate, liaise and negotiate effectively with others. o Ability to motivate, innovate and support staff of all disciplines o Excellent written and verbal presentation skills o Excellent personal time management skills. o Good organisational skills. o Ability to achieve objectives. o Ability to work collaboratively with the Executive Team. o Ability to work within a multi-professional and multi disciplinary framework. o Competent in basic information technology.
