Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist. This post is to replace the Neighbourhood Mental health team consultant who is leaving. Its based on the Living well/ Neighbourhood Model in Rochdale and is a Community post.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust and there are many opportunities to contribute to the organisations’ development and to look at service redesign models. Rochdale has a very strong teaching commitment and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff. There are close links to ongoing research projects. The Consultants contribute to local service user & carer groups.
Main duties of the job
The Neighbourhood psychiatrist will offer expert advice to GPs for patients not currently open to secondary care mental health services. The service will advise about medication, signposting to other services and specialties’, as well as clinical management and diagnostic advice. The service will be provided on a daily basis, Monday to Friday
The post holder will work with the NMHT in Rochdale service, working across HMR-Rochdale as a consultant psychiatrist, providing clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.T
The service are transforming and innovative so it is anticipated that some work would be managerial and consist of developing and expanding the team, delivering training to new team members, and championing the service with other stakeholders.
To provide high-quality Mental Health Care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the community
To work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Rochdale area
To work with the other Consultants to support the development of the service, and to attend local and divisional service development meetings

Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Additional clinical qualifications
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Clinical skills, knowledge and experience
Essential
- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Desirable
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Academic skills and lifelong learning
Essential
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
- Participated in continuous professional development
- Participated in research or service evaluation
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Has actively participated in clinical audit
Desirable
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
