Main duties of the job

Main duties will include:

o Working within a multidisciplinary model, provide psychiatric input to the community as a senior member of the team.o Clinical responsibility for patients in their care, including assessment and ongoing management.o Advice and support to medical, nursing and other disciplines within thecatchment area upon all aspects of the psychiatry of learning disability.o Provide specialist psychiatric advice to GP’s, carers and establishmentsinvolved in the provisions of support to people with learning disabilities inthe catchment area.o Act as Approved Clinician (AC) and Responsible Clinician (RC) inaccordance with the requirements under the MHA (1983) and itsamendments including carrying out Mental Health Act assessments, acting as the Responsible Clinician for patients on Supervised Community Treatment orders, and preparation of Mental Health Act reports for those patientso Maintain accurate clinical notes and records, including effective andappropriate written communication in line with professional and Trustguidance.o To provide information and guidance for patients and carers.o To contribute to in house training, team and peer supervision.o To provide up to date clinical reports on patient care to all relevant agencies involved in the care planning as required.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

• Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist’s Guidelines)
• Section 12 (Mental Health Act) Approved or eligible
• Hold Approved Clinician [AC] status or be eligible

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in community-based services for people with learning disabilities
• Multidisciplinary team working within learning disability services.
