Main Duties of The Consultant PostConsultant Psychiatrists are a valuable and finite resource within our clinical services and whilst the primary responsibility for every consultant is the delivery of a high-quality clinical service all consultants will be expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the service and work with their non-medical senior leaders to steer the development of their service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.

We will provide the necessary training and development opportunities for all Consultants joining the Trust to ensure they are able to deliver these components of their role.

Main duties of the job

The PostThe Peterborough team covers both the Older Adults Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CHRTT-OP) and the Dementia Intensive Support Service (DIST). It forms part of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust’s (CPFT) Older People’s Mental Health Services and is based at The Cavell Centre. The service provides specialist, multidisciplinary assessment and intensive support for older adults, including people living with dementia, who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis, complex mental health needs or a deterioration in their wellbeing. The team works closely with service users, families, carers and partner agencies to provide timely, coordinated care that supports people to remain safely at home wherever possible and helps reduce the need for hospital admission.

The focus of the service is to meet the needs of service users who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. All interventions provided by the service are short term and focused on the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of the service user and their carers and family during the period of the crisis.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Approved Clinician Status or eligible to attend training

Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience of good working relationships
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of teaching and supervision of doctors in training.

Desirable

  • Publications in the field of psychiatry

Entry Criteria for the grade:

Essential

  • Specialty Registration in specialty CCT in relevant specialty or within 6 months of attainment of Higher Training CCT at time of interview.
  • Shall have equivalent experience and competencies recognised by GMC
