Job summary

This is a substantive Consultant post. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients of the Urology services. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload ofthe Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

Main duties of the job

The postholder is expected to work across all Kings Urology sites including Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital and Beckenham Beacon with on call duties currently located at DenmarkHill. The proposed job plan (up to 10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post. The On-Call commitment is for a 1:10 rota and is classified as Category A. There is a commitment to undertake routine job planned work on Saturdays or Sundays as part of the total job planned PAs.

Essential

  • Full Registration with GMC
  • Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registerable medical qualification
  • Full FRCS (Urol)

Desirable

  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)

Training and Experience

Essential

  • Wide experience in all aspects of urology culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.

Desirable

  • Specialist clinical experience in prostate cancer

Management and Leadership

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Management course and/or qualification.

Audit and Quality Improvement

Essential

  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
  • Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.

Desirable

  • Audit publications

Administration

Essential

  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of urology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
  • Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes

Research and Publications

Essential

  • Experience of clinical research

Desirable

  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of urology
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation

Desirable

  • Teaching skills course/qualification
