Job Summary

To provide the Trust with accurate, validated and consolidated data. Including the use of programming in Transact SQL (T-SQL) to extract data and facilitate data migration in a format that can be used for reporting purposes, or for other staff members within the Trust or external agencies.

To develop and document the new data warehouse to become the main source of patient information required for all the Trust’s reporting requirements.

To extract patient level data from the Trust’s information systems and manipulate it into a format that is helpful and accessible.

To participate in the development and implementation of the Trust’s information systems, and data quality programme.

To write and automate scripts in SQL. To document process for running automated scripts and train staff within the Contracts, Performance and Information team in these processes enabling them to run scripts as and when required without supervision.

To attend meetings and contribute to projects regarding information and data quality issues as directed by the Data Warehouse Manager.

 

Main duties of the job

To write advanced programs in SQL to create extracts and transform data into logical, structured formats for use by members of the EPR Programme for reporting and analytical purposes.

To analyse both simple and complex information requirements, design comprehensive solutions, and develop methods for their effective implementation, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

To develop, create, and maintain a suite of reports as directed by the Data Warehouse Manager that support the Trust’s operational and strategic objectives.

To develop and meticulously document automated processes for loading and maintaining the data warehouse and other systems, ensuring these processes can be easily maintained and operated by other team members.

To adapt, design, and enhance information systems to meet evolving specifications, adhering to best practices and quality standards.

 

To ensure that all activities are performed within the defined level of competence, proactively seeking guidance from managers/supervisors when necessary, and continually updating skills and knowledge in

Job responsibilities

To write advanced programs in SQL to create extracts and transform data into logical, structured formats for use by members of the EPR Programme for reporting and analytical purposes.

To analyse both simple and complex information requirements, design comprehensive solutions, and develop methods for their effective implementation, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

To develop, create, and maintain a suite of reports as directed by the Data Warehouse Manager that support the Trust’s operational and strategic objectives.

To develop and meticulously document automated processes for loading and maintaining the data warehouse and other systems, ensuring these processes can be easily maintained and operated by other team members.

To adapt, design, and enhance information systems to meet evolving specifications, adhering to best practices and quality standards.

Regularly undertake rigorous testing and verification of coding and programming within the new data warehouse to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and reliability, implementing necessary corrections and improvements.

To provide and receive highly complex information, translating intricate IM&T issues into comprehensible terms for non-IM&T staff and suppliers, while conveying detailed IM&T information effectively within peer groups.

To actively participate in the development and implementation of the Trusts information systems and data quality programmes, identifying areas for improvement and proposing actionable solutions.

To contribute to the Trusts overarching data quality and completeness initiatives by writing sophisticated scripts that highlight and rectify data quality issues, ensuring data integrity across all systems.

To ensure that all activities are performed within the defined level of competence, proactively seeking guidance from managers/supervisors when necessary, and continually updating skills and knowledge in

line with the evolving demands of the role.

Data Quality

To actively contribute to the Trust’s overarching data quality and completeness initiatives by developing and deploying advanced scripts that proactively identify, analyse, and resolve data quality issues. This involves leveraging sophisticated methodologies and tools to ensure data integrity, consistency, and reliability across all systems. The post-holder will also be responsible for documenting these processes comprehensively to facilitate seamless maintenance and operation by other team members.

Projects

To lead and support local projects, including system migration, integration of new information into the data warehouse, and the delivery of national datasets, ensuring project goals are met on time and within budget.

Environment

To maintain an environment conducive to high-quality work, predominantly home-based, but with a commitment to attend Trust sites (potentially County Hall or Hellesdon Hospital) for at least one day per week, and possibly more as the programme progresses.

Job Limitations

At no time should the post-holder work outside their defined level of competence. If the post-holder has concerns regarding this, they should immediately discuss them with their manager/ supervisor. All staff have a responsibility to inform those supervising their duties if they are not competent to perform a duty.

In line with the Data Protection Act 1998, the post holder will be expected to maintain confidentiality in relation to personal and patient information, as outlined in the contract of employment. The post holder may access information only on a need-to-know basis in the direct discharge of duties and divulge information only in the proper course of duties.

Records Management

The post-holder has a legal responsibility to treat all records created, maintained, used or handled as part of their work within the organisation in confidence (even after an employee has left the organisation). They also have a duty to manage records in line with the organisations records management policy. Included in these are records relating to patient health, finance, personnel and administrative functions, whether paper based or electronic. All staff have a responsibility to consult their manager if they have any doubts about the correct management of the records with which they work.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree which has included data analysis/presentation, data manipulation, computing or numeric subject, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Level qualification preferably including a computing or numerate subject.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience and understanding of relational databases and working knowledge of SQL in a business/working environment.
  • Extensive experience in manipulation of large and complex data sets in a business/working environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of data manipulation using SQL within the NHS.
  • Experience in implementing a data warehouse.
  • Working in an EPR programme with emphasis to Data Management or Reporting

Skills

Essential

  • Able to provide and receive highly complex information, communicate intricate IM&T issues to non-IM&T staff and suppliers, and convey detailed IM&T information within peer groups.
  • Writing SQL and interpreting SQL written by others.
  • Ability to extract and consolidate data from different sources.

Desirable

  • Good understanding of SSIS. (SQL Server Integration Services)

  • Specialist knowledge across range of procedures underpinned by theory. Specialist knowledge and expertise acquired through degree level or equivalent qualification/experience plus additional specialist knowledge
