Main duties of the job
- The midwife is responsible and accountable for his/her own midwiferypractice.
- To work in partnership with women and their families, GP, obstetrician andother agencies to ensure optimum care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of mothers and babies inaccordance with the Trust’s policies and guidelines.
- Strive for continuity of care and informed client choice within the limitations ofthe service.
- Facilitate the learning of midwifery skills through supervision, teaching andsupport.
- Actively promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle, advising and arrangingsupport for women as required.
- Participate in parent information groups, facilitating preparation for childbirthand the postnatal period.
Person Specification
Education/qualifications
Essential
- Midwifery degree or equivalent
- Mentorship or full SSSA preparation
- Registered Midwife (on NMC register)
Desirable
- NIPE/EON
- Diabetic experience
- PROMPT
Experience
Essential
- Completed 3 year post registration clinical experience working as an RM in the UK
- Completed preceptorship course if applicable
Desirable
- Experience of working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs
- Experience of working with pregnant women who have experienced pregnancy/neonatal loss
- Community midwifery experience
- Experience in diabetes in pregnancy
Skills
Essential
- IV drugs administration and cannulation
- Medicines management
- Computer literate – Power Point, Word, Excel.
Desirable
- Involvement in quality improvement projects
- Worked as shift leader
- FSRH letter of competency for contraceptive implant insertion
